TESTING AT SALFORD UNIVERSITY ENERGY HOUSE

Energy House is a pioneering research and testing facility housed within an early 20th-century, two-bedroom terraced home. Located inside an advanced environmental chamber, it offers an ideal setting for the precise and rapid evaluation of energy-efficient technologies. The house features traditional construction elements, including solid brick walls, suspended timber floors, single-glazed windows, and a conventional heating system powered by a gas boiler.

The environmental chamber surrounding the house can simulate a wide range of weather conditions, with temperatures ranging from -12°C to +30°C. It is equipped with systems to replicate wind, rain, snow, and solar radiation, allowing for comprehensive testing in varied environmental scenarios.

The facility is equipped with over 200 monitoring points throughout the house and chamber, enabling real-time data collection on key parameters such as temperature, humidity, heat flux, and both electricity and gas consumption.

As a multi-disciplinary research centre, the Energy House brings together the expertise of more than 25 academics, making it a leading hub for energy research in the UK.

The development of new energy saving products is crucial for the UK to achieve its Climate Change targets and reduce energy costs for households. The Energy House is the perfect environment to research the impact of blinds and window coverings, offering a unique opportunity to demonstrate how they can contribute significantly to energy savings and lowering carbon emissions.
